Subject: Reminders About the Upcoming Thanksgiving Break

Dear Seawolves,

As the semester winds down and final exams approach, we hope you are looking forward to a few days to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends.

There are no classes from Wednesday, November 27 to Sunday, December 1. If you’re currently a resident student, you are welcome to remain on campus during any or all of the break. Campus offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.

The Recreation CenterUnion, SAC, and other campus buildings will operate on a holiday schedule, so please check their websites before your visit.

Campus dining will be available during the break as noted on the SBU Eats website, including a traditional Thanksgiving meal (with all the fixings!) on Thursday, November 28 from 11am to 2pm.

Looking for fun things to do during the break? Check out SB Engaged and your residential community for campus events and happenings during Thanksgiving break.

Medical and Mental Health Care Is Available to You Anywhere, Anytime!

As part of our comprehensive Student Health, Wellness, and Prevention Services, remember that you don’t have to be on campus to use TimelyCare’s free 24/7 virtual medical, mental health care, and health coaching services. If you’re away for Thanksgiving Break and need to connect with a counselor or medical provider, or just talk to someone about something on your mind, go to timelycare.com/stonybrook or download the TimelyCare app (iOS or Android) to use the service.

Staying Safe

If you will be traveling off-campus, keep in mind the following:

  • If you are traveling by car, stay safe and alert, and please get a good night’s sleep before getting behind the wheel.

  • You will probably want to get together with friends you haven't seen in a long time and celebrate the holidays. Remember your Red Watch Band training to prevent an alcohol or drug overdose and stay safe.

  • Boost your immune system. We’re in the midst of flu season, so now is a good time to get your flu shot at any pharmacy or your doctor’s office. Please continue to check the Student Health Services website for dates and times for COVID and Seasonal Flu PODS.

  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers/cleaners are also effective and convenient.

We wish you a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Rick Gatteau, PhD
Vice President for Student Affairs
